AUCTION : 0414

Lot#: 394

DESCRIPTION: C. Jerome & Co., Richmond, Va, 30 hours, time and strike, weight wood movement half column and splat shelf clock, c1835
CONDITION: Refinished mahogany veneered case with numerous age cracks to the veneer on the door and repairs on the base. Stenciling on the columns has been redone. Painted dial is nice for its age. Hands are original. Centered stenciled tablet is original. Mirror is a replacement. Clean label inside the case. The label states the movement made by Ephraim Downes has brass bushings, but the one inside this case does not. These clocks were assembled in Virginia to avoid the tax and many used whatever movements they had on hand despite what the label states. Richmond clocks are scarce and historically interesting.
